Previous Oklahoma Sports Betting Bills
In 2017, an amendment was filed to include language that would permit the Governor to discuss changes to tribal compacts to allow sports wagering. The suggested amendment was not adopted and nothing ever came from it.
In 2018, this bill would modify the State-Tribal Gaming Act to permit ball and dice. Initially would have legalized sports pools, but the bill was amended to withdraw the language.
HB 3375
In 2018, this bill would’ve expanded state-tribal gaming to include non-house banked table games such as dice, roulette wheels, and sports pools. Was later amended to remove the legalization of sports pools.
2019 Tribal Gaming Compact Disagreement
Gov. Kevin Stitt and the tribes of Oklahoma were in disagreement with what would happen to their gaming compact come 2020. This led to 10+ tribes filing a lawsuit against the state until the governor offered sports betting as a part of the compact to which they rejected.
2020 Tribal Gaming Compact Dispute With Attorney General
Gov. Stitt approved sports betting to be offered on tribal land only after relegations which was then agreed upon. This was until Mike Hunter (Attorney General) stepped in opposing these actions stating that the governor would only be allowed to agree to a compact allowing current games in the Tribal Gaming Act to which sports betting was not.
HB 3008
In 2022, this bill would have allowed only tribes in Oklahoma to accept sports betting. The bill did not make it through the house floor as it never got a third reading.
In 2023, this bill would have regulated sports betting in Oklahoma state wide and made it through the House Committee. However, it eventually died in the Senate Committee.
SB 1434
This bill in 2023 would’ve allowed for the states lottery to offer mobile sports betting. The bill did not pass before the end of the legislative session.
